Hesitantly I said yes to the offer to document the birth of Embersun. I always assumed this was the job for a woman. I was put on call and waited anxiously until the day I got the sudden phone call and made the 1.5 hour drive. Sierra was kindly demanding about what I photographed, and I was consistently shocked about the access I was given. The few times I backed off to allow privacy, I immediately heard her shout, "Where is Puma?" This is partly why this selection is honestly unsatisfying to share. The most compelling images from the 12 hrs I was present are too graphic and are for the family alone.
